In SASS I am known as "Sam Hane," and am member number #28778, a mere novice. So far I have not gotten involved with the shooting competitions, but certainly plan to in the future.

SASS is a classic example of the safe recreational use of firearms by law-abiding citizens ..... something the media tends to ignore. It's a way to relive the Old West in the period from the late 1800's to the early 20th century. It involves shooting period firearms (revolvers, rifles, and shotguns) in scenarios that might have come straight out of a Western movie. It is adopting a "persona" and an alias, and dressing in period clothing. It's all about having a heck of a lot of fun!

Besides, a semi-re-enactment group where I can play banjo and shoot at targets sounds like Heaven to me!

I am given to understand by those who would know much concerning the matter that a small Biographic would be appropriate in this place, in order that the Shootists and Townsfolk should receive an impression of who I am. Let us begin by saying that some might view the playing of the Banjo as an inappropriate action for a travelling Preacher, but such speech should best be left where it lies. I play the Banjo, and enjoy it mightily. I also play the Guitar ( an instrument some might see as only appropriate for ladies ) and it is my firm belief that the Guitar has a bright future in these United States and its Territories. The family being of Lousiana extraction, migrated West thru Texas to New Mexico, wherein our WXB brand was registered and the birth of my father took place. My entry into this World was accomplished in El Paso, Texas, and I was raised to the Gentlemanly Virtues of Swordplay and Shooting. I have been many places in my travels, spending some time with the Tribes of the Great Plains, and some work amidst the peoples of the Mongolian Steppes ( both of which groups marvelled greatly at the Banjo ) and currently have my residence, along with my Sweet Lady Wife, in the Arizona Territory near the Agua Fria River. It should also be mentioned that I am the Representative for the Famous Banjo Salve, a product that truly works Miracles, operate the Arizona office of the Sam Hane Private Detective © Agency, and might from time to time be called for service as a Scout for the 9th Cavalry. I have a PhD from Miskatonic University, located at Arkham, Massachusetts, and continue my studies with the indigenous Tribes in the Arizona Territory and with our Spanish neighbors, a rich field of endeavour indeed, for much remains unknown about the history of the Sonoran Desert. I must also confess that the tales told of me in the Dime Novels and Penny Dreadfuls are for the most part grave Exaggerations of the true Facts, and should be approached with Caution.
